Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is one of the most important and celebrated festivals for Chinese around the world. The lunar new year celebration lasts for 15 days (初一 to 十五) and is a time for families members to visit and pay respects to their elders, such as Parents, Grandparents, Aunties or Uncles. In return, the elders will give their blessings accompanied by an Ang Bao (紅包 or Red packed) filled with money.
Chinese New Year Goodies are also essential to the celebration as they symbolise important significance. For instance, pineapple (“ong lai”) tarts signify the “arrival of fortune” in Hokkien. House visit traditions have evolved over the years, and many of us extend house visits to our friends and colleagues. Hosting a house visit can be taunting and less interesting when everyone serves the same Chinese New Year Goodies. Why not make the house visits exciting and enjoyable by whipping up some Chinese New Year Cocktails?
